Unit 12229
Category: Layer dug in 2007
Area: TP
Interpretive Categories: wall bricks
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: brick; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This is a mudbrick wall comprising the mudbricks (12229) and the mortar (13034). The bricks were orangish and of a good quality. They were attached to an earlier parallel wall recorded as unit 11583.
The wall originally belongs to Building 3 dug up by J. Mellaart in the 1960s. The bricks were placed on top of a midden (1520) layer itself located against the wall 11583.
The wall itself was truncated by late burial pits (f. 1915 and 1908). It consisted of 4 definable courses of bricks of the following dimensions:
upper course: 0,48/0,18/0.08; 0,72/0,17/0,08; 0,50/0,20/0,08; 0,11/0,14/0,09
2nd course: 0,45/0,23/0,09; 0,73/0,26//0,08-0,10
3rd course: 0,13/0,31/0,08; 0,36/0,28/0,09; 0,52/0,26/0,10; 0,40/0,25/0,09; 0,44/0,3/0,09
bottom course: 0,14/0,3/0,08; 0,67/0,3/0,1; 0,7/0,25/0,1; 0,48/0,32/0,09
It is worth noticing that the first mudbrick ineach course (the northernmost) was situated partly in the sction it must have been larger.
