Discussion: Ashy layer beneath remnant of floor (1251).
Probably represent hearth ash/residue levelled/ remnant prior to surfacing of oven. Very similar/ same kind of deposit as (1249 ) and not easily distinguished from it at East end where earlier floor has not survived.

Consistency: Very weak 

Colour: 7.5YR 8/1-2 Black 

Texture: Silty sand 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Charred plant remains < 2%, <0.5 cm; white sileceous plant (or plaster pieces) 20-30 %, <1mm 

Post-depositional Features: Roots <2% 

Basal Boundary: Smooth, flat, prominent, sharp <2mm.
