Unit description: Sample 8 (dry sieve; section of floor): A few pieces of sheep-size scrap. Very little burning. Rather weathered. Sample 1 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. A few mostly small sheep-size bits of scrap, many with plastery coating. A little low temperature burning. Weathering varies from quite well-preserved to somewhat rolled/trampled. Some froggy microfauna. No coherence. Looks like floor. Sample 4 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Similar to sample 1, although notable for a few largish (2- cm) pieces of skull. Some bone is a little worn, but most quite fesh. Looks more like sweepings than floor, or at least low traffic floor. Sample 12 flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Not labelled, but appears to be 1, 2, and 4mm combined. Some fish and microfauna from the 1-2mm range. Only macrofauna is a bit of burnt sheep-size scrap, rather fresh. Looks llike clean floor or something. Sample 15 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Small sample of 4 small pieces of bone, 3 sheep-size, one large mammal. One is a metapodial fragment. The large mammal bit is heavily calcined. It and the metapodial are rather battered. The other bits are quite fresh. Looks like floor. Sample 16 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Larger than some, with mostly scrappy bits of sheep-size bone, a little burning. Also a complete human floating rib. What is that doing here? It is beautifully preserved, whereas most of the rest of the bone is rather weathered. Animal burrow? A bit of amphibian microfauna. Minus the human rib, looks more like fill than floor. Sample 19 >4mm flotation 100% sorted and recorded completely. More small bits of sheep-size scrap with some burning. Range of weathering, including some very fresh. Some with plastery film. Looks like dirty floor or sweepings. 15/08/01: 3 grams of sheep-size scrap removed from S19 for C14 dating - UK. LM. Last number = 56
