Unit 1365

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous

Discussion: Sub-floor packing /make-up, probably associated with floor 1359. Appears to be made up of a series of overlapping dumps with very little cultural material - some bone, which was inclined almost vertically suggesting. Rapid deposition; subsequent excavation however has clarified what is going on; now seems that one of the 'fill' is a floor and the lower compacted fill, make-up from this floor. This lower floor has been truncated by the latest floors and levelled off with more packing

Unit description: Small unit, but with a couple of big pieces: a female sheep pelvis and a sheep goat foramen magnum, the latter quite weathered. In addition, there are 3 bits of pig-cow size scrap. One is slightly burnt. X2 is a badly preserved piece of antler. Sample 1 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Small sample, chiefly little bits of sheep-size scrap, with one worn fragment of a cattle phalanx. One is burnt, most are somewhat weathered. Looks like empty fill. Sample 7 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Looks quite different. Larger amount, larger pieces, less weathered. Some little bits look kicked around, other pieces are very fresh. Little burning, no digestion. Looks like sweepings. Sample 10 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Looks different again. Fairly large sample, with many large pieces and a fair amount of large mammal. More low temperature burning, most very weathered. Looks like dirty fill, but different origin from sample 7. Last number = 64
