Interpretive Categories: post retrieval pit

Data Category Information: Description: pit

Discussion: Post robbing pit to retrieve a large rectangular post from engaged pillar F.1495. Some of the plaster facing survives and the front (S extent) although the easter part has been destoryed as the post was removed and pulled forwards. The NW corner and S facing plastered surface has been heavily damaged by animal burrows.
The collapsed fill appears to have extended to a height of 0.28M.

This is probibly NOT a post retrival pit! It appears to be some kind of tall thin bin/ What was recorded as robbing is in fact collapse. (DE 16/08/06)

Recognition: Engaged pillar scars on wall, collapsed and fill within clearly visible in section and plan
