Discussion: 14285 was yellowish and generally a compact layer beneath 14278. It was easily identifiable. In the middle most animal burrow, indicated on the sketch by an asterisk, the compact layer 14285 was visible in section as a whitish dusty layer roughly 2cm thick.

It was not clear whether the layer went as far as the mudbrick wall 14286. 

 

Recognition: colour and texture; yellowish brown 

Definition: various; well defined in areas 

Execution: trowel and brush 

Condition: warm and still 

Consistency: compacted and clay like 

Colour: yellowish brown, some mottling 

Texture: silty and sandy 

Bedding: some mixing 

Inclusions: plaster, pottery, faunal remains 

Post-depositional Features: burrows, roots 

Basal Boundary: unclear due to cutting of pit on SW limits of excavation, in the east there is an arbitrary end point.
