Discussion: 14286 was initially thought to be a midden due to its dark ashy consistency until straight boundaries between features 2403 and unit 14287 suggested it was a wall. This was confirmed further by the presence of plaster and mortar, although some disturbance is apparent along the wall. The reason for its ashy appearance is not clear.

The mortar is unit 15309. Look at unit sheet 15320 for a sketch of the stratigraphy involving mudbrick 14286 and mortar 15309.

Definition: quite clear in south and west 

Execution: trowel and brush 

Condition: hot and dry 

Consistency: ashy and blocky 

Colour: dark grey with lighter mortar 

Texture: silty 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: plaster, mortar 

Post-depositional Features: some roots and animal disturbance
