Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: 15 litres of dry sieve from unit 1530, a charcoal-rich midden layer in Space 151, produced a reasonable quantity of bone. Fragmentation is low and large fragments from a wide range of species were found. Pig was represented by an almost complete unfused pelvis, cattle by an unfused 2nd phalanx. Caprine bones included a complete thoracic vertebra and distal humerus and fox is represented by a mandible fragment. Equid was particularly well represented, with an articulated calcaneus, astragalus, tarsals and metatarsals as well an additional 1st metatarsal and an maxillary tooth, possibly from Equus caballus. Newborn sheep/goat were also present with a two fragments from metapodials and a tibia identified. Both burning and weathering of these bones was minimal. 4mm, flotation sample 2, 100% sorted was recorded for diagnostics only and was made up of small bone fragments mainly from sheep sized animals. Weathering was minimal and only about 10% of the material had been burnt to low temperatures. Overall the fauna from the midden lens has low integrity, with both small fragments suggesting high processing and complete bones and even articulated elements indicating minimal processing. The variety of taxa and newborn as well as older animals in the sample also suggests that the deposit was an accumulation from different events. Dogs do not appear to have had significant access to the material as gnawed and digested bone is only present in low proportions.
