Unit 1532
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: floors + makeup
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 4.00 m N-S x 1.80 m E-W x max 60 mm
Discussion: This is now more likely to represent a make-up /levelling deposit, overlying the midden and underlain by floors. Homogeneous layer with frequent salt flecks; occasional charcoal flecks with a friable texture. The surface horizon is covered in salt crust.
Initially interpreted as a floor due to its surface treatment however on excavation more it became clear it was a not a floor. The red Ochre may have therefore been deliberate as a foundation 'ritual' or the result of an accident!!
Very probably contemporary / same as (1537)
Execution: trowel
Condition: damp after rain but dry and sunny
Consistency: firm
Colour: 10YR 5/4 grey to dark grey
Texture: silty clay
