Description: Trench 9 

 

Discussion: The midden was overall ashy, but there were some particularly burnt places, such as in the northern area and in the south east corner. There were lots of burnt bones as well. The midden layer was quite thin and came onto room fill (15469). The midden layer (15407) was also truncated by the grave cut [15436] to the west.

Definition: clear 

Execution: mattock, trowel, hoe 

Condition: hot and breezy 

Consistency: loose and friable 

Colour: dark grey with lots of ash 

Texture: silty 

Bedding: massive, possible layered 

Inclusions: very frequent bone; occasional stone, obsidian, clay ball; very occasional figurines (x1), pottery 

Post-depositional Features: bioturbation, burial cut 

Basal Boundary: clear onto room fill
