Discussion: Linear cut for wall 1578. Cut only extends for 1.30m of the wall (the wall continues south for a further 2.30m approx. The cut is very shallow (less than 0.01 m) in the south and deepens towards the north on the east side only. Bottom of cut slopes down slightly towards the east. Cut (and wall) continues north beyond unit of excavation. bottom of cut is uneven.
The cut is flush with the wall. It is possible that the cut may have been created by the pressure of the wall above bearing down on the soft deposits below. I think the cut is deliberate because it has a clear end at the south end.
