Discussion: N/S aligned cut for wall 1518 and step through opening 55 the cut is very regular with the wall fitting in very tightly , so much so that it may be possible that the lower courses were constructed within the cut. There was a stage when the cut was unconvincing and appeared to be a gap formed by wall slippage , later the cut did exist on the other side to. This cut is very different to the northern wall cut 1603. To confuse the matter there is a further or earlier cut 1608 that may be a terracing cut
