Discussion: Remnants of floors left by Mellaart. We thought we would take off remains of floors left by Mellaart. To the south these were well preserved; to the north they were patchy. They sloped severely towards the east, and bumped up in the middle. At the north end 3 distinct layers became apparent - the highest (1) (see sketch) seems to be remains of a plastered basin, as see in the section. we may have truncated this a little to the south. The make -up between the floors is much thicker and denser than usual, and may have been an attempt at levelling after the floors slumped by the wall. NB There is a crawl hole in the wall on the other side - unstable ?
