Unit 16402
Category: Layer dug in 2008
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fill of building
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This layer seems to have occurred in a single episode because the type of material is so distinct and largely isolated, although at some points difficult to isolate from the layer below. There was a concentration of burnt animal bone is the southeast corner, throughout the layer was frequent fragments of plaster wall lining. Removal of this layer exposed the southern wall and defined the space (336). Against the northeastern wall was a concentration of slag (blue, green, yellow, white, and black) from burnt mudbrick and plaster, as Chris pointed out this demonstrated a closed fire getting up to temperatures of 1056 degrees celsius. The layer was difficult to dig due the the very large concentration of burnt mud brick between ashy silt.
