Unit 16841

Category: Layer    dug in 2008

Area: Trench 5

Interpretive Categories: later fill,Mortar

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ

Dimensions: NS: 500 cm; EW: 41 cm; Depth: 52 cm

Discussion: Mortar 16841 is a part of feature 5050. It follows through the grave cut (F.2416) and joins to F.2425. Therefore it is highly probably that mortar 16841 is the same as mortar 16843.

***This unit was excavated on 22/08/12 by DLG
This unit represents the mudbrick layers of the eastern wall of b.107 (f.2425/5050). The bricks are light gray in color with tiny bits of charcoal and lime inclusions as well as small fragments of pottery, bone, stone, obsidian and shell. They are firm and compact but do not seem to be of a uniform size and sometimes the size of the brick can be adapted to spatial needs. This is difficult to determine precisely as the wall is heavily disturbed by animal-burrows - especially at the corners where excavation took place.

TET 28/08/13:
This unit stands for the mortar layers of feature 2426. Only the flotation samples, archive samples and architecture samples are listed in this sheet. Other finds from this unit, as well as the volume of removed soil is listed under the mudbrick unit 16842. See also 16845 and 16846. For the understanding of this project it is also important to look at 31178.
