Unit 1688
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: plaster
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: plaster; Deposition: layered (wall plaster)
Dimensions: 0.54 m EW x max 80 mm x max 20 mm depth
Discussion: Continuous rendering of wall & floor on north face of wall 77, small patches to west survive in situ - no trace of floor continuing further, no plaster on wall.
Although plaster is normally layered, this appears to be massive, fairly crudely rendered & thick at junction of wall & floor (c. 30mm). Reflects the overhang in the wall & slopes from east to west at a 1:2 gradient.
19/9: on removing the top courses of wall [77] it became apparent that the extent of the plaster defines one wall, the plaster continues on to the west face with a 2nd wall rebuilt, abutting the plaster face.
