Dimensions: NS: 134 cm; EW: 220 cm; depth:15 cm 

 

Discussion: This unit, located in space 452, to the south of sp. 446 and to the N of b. 98 has been interpreted as fill and possibly (given the large ammounts of pottery and animal bone recovered) as a dumping area. No surface has been found so far at the bottom of the unit. Further excavation will provide a better understanding of the function of sp. 452. 

 

Recognition: Dark grayish brown sandy silt surface 

Definition: clear to the N, S, E, and W 

Execution: pickaxe, trowel, small pick, brush 

Condition: under shelter, warm 

Consistency: Fairly compact fill with firm lumps of plaster 

Colour: dark grayish brown fill with pale yellow plaster inclusions 

Texture: sandy silt with clay (plaster) inclusions 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: plaster/mortar, large potsherds, stone, groundstones, animal bones 

Post-depositional Features: animall burrows
