Unit 16994
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: mud brick
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This unit consists of the mud brick material of buttress F.3301. The buttress was cut in half (E to W) in order to expose the inside, this revealed brick slabs running into wall F.5058 bonding both features. The exact number of courses was not visible because the buttress was removed in several stages. Also the construction is different in areas using different brick sizes. Two large slabs were placed bonding to wall F.5058 at right angle to the wall. A further slab was placed across the front of these bricks in the eastern part of the buttress. This larger slab towards the interior of the buttress forms the base of the buttress. These construction components show similarities to buttress F.3302 in the east. The entire feature was constructed on the plastered surface U.16999.
