Unit 17499
Category: Layer dug in 2008
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: small pit fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: scoop; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit
Dimensions: 0.5 m diam x 0.15m deep
Discussion: Sterile fill of small scoop or pit in SE corner. Fill solid and blocky with lots decayed reed impressions. Looks like raw building material, similaqr to some mudbrick type material. Dug into infill of earlier building.
At surface looked almost puddled - though would/could be ladder emplacement but regular and circular shape of cut in plan suggests otherwise.
Location at interface of constructiion phase could suggest a construction of B.49 phase event, possibly a small pit to make mud plaster? For internal house features etc?
. Appears that dry sieve volume of zero is valid 19/08/09 SAJ
Recognition: colour change and compaction relative to surrounds
Consistency: solid, blocky
Colour: mid yellow brown
Texture: fine silty clay
Bedding: massive and blocky
Inclusions: v. clean, occ specks of white salts and charcoal but matrix rich in decayed reed impressions
Post-depositional Features: animal run
Basal Boundary: clear, sharp, anthropogenic
