Discussion: This layer is a deposit of significant ash underlying the yellow clay floor surface (18696). It likely signifies the rake-out from hearth F.3525- it is also worth remarking that large quantities of ash and charcoal have been found in this area in more recent stratigraphic units. The basal boundary along with the south and eastern edges of this deposit were extremely difficult to determine since it is composed of sucessive and continuous dumping/rake-out events, without any structure built to contain the ash. Excavation of this layer ceased when it became clear that some of the ash was extenuating underneath the floor layer present in the southeast area of the space.
