Discussion: Dump layer room backfill. mainly building demolition redeposited in building 2 at west dumped lenses appear to slope down from south to north probably caused by dumping over upstanding bin, also due as it appeared later by slumping into pit. Material very mixed suggesting material derives from different sources. Lenses of ash suggest some domestic dumping along with demolition material, discrete dumps undoubtedly exist but rapidity of the dumping may be seen with two refitting fragments of clay ball found at different heights and positions within this dump in the room. Large bones, horns and jaws were located at base of 1873 but were probably lying on 2024 below.

Faunal Records: Yes Count of records:: 634  Unit description: F 532 subsampled for ZooMS (DCO 2014). A large unit, probably less generally fragmented than usual (although many fresh breaks)-- the average piece seems larger than normal. Several pieces are about 20 cm long. Fairly even body part distribution, heavy on the cranial, perhaps a bit short on ribs (particularly 007-size). Wide range of taxa. Proportionately fewer O/C than usual. A full range of body parts and ages. Of special interest in the O/C category: wild sheep (Ovis orientalis) horn core, and a small pair of Ovis horn cores (X9). Also pig-- but all/ virtually all cranial, old and young, male and female-- all wild size range. N. B.: MNI of 6 on pig maxillae; all different ages. Not much equid, small and quite old. A bit of bird, and a rodent mandible. Two human bits. Cervid-- a fair amount of antler, some worked, and nothing else. Lots of cattle, all through the body, both normal and mega sizes. The mega parts include a R radius, a L humerus, a foramen magnum, a broken atlas, axis, several verts, one rib. Teeth suggest head roasting. A Bos horn core stub looked mega because it was smushed-- in any case, it's certainly not small. Smaller cattle parts include humeri, 2 different radii, metacarpals with skinning cuts, toes (smashed and gnawed), scap, verts, ribs, femur, teeth, and skull. Very little burning in the unit, but some calcination. Some digestion, but proportionally not too much. Not a lot of butchery, but some. More integrity, big pieces sitting on bottom. Possible installation debris includes the sheep frontlet and O.orientalis horn core, as well as the Bos horn core stub-- all on surface. This unit really contains two separate depositional events: the large pieces laid out on the occupation surface immediately above the floor that have a real coherence and likely result from careful placing of feasting remains, perhaps as part of the closing of the house, and the substantial layer of fill that overlies this and accounts for most of the material. F611 is a cattle tooth sent for DNA. Flot sample 785 (no sample number), >4 mm 100%. Diagnostics only. A relatively small sample generally reflectiing the dry sieve. One fish bone was pulled for export. Only one mammal bone was diagnostic. 4mm flotation sample #2, 100% sorted, was recorded for diagnostics only. The material was well fragmented and there was a fairly high proportion of digested bones. Amongst the diagnostics was a cat phalanx 2 and a foetal/neonatal ilium of sheep/goat/roe. Last number = 623
