Discussion: In relation to the surrounding fill (u.18994) this unit was distinguishable by its lighter more orange colour, courser texture and greater abundance of inclusions. This unit may have formed during the abandonment phase of the building and probably begun as a loose pile of damaged bricks, mortar and burnt wood. Its discrete spread and position in the centre of the building floor may indicate parts of it could have fallen from the ceiling or walls of the building as it degraded and/or burnt. 

Consistency: Firm 

Colour: Light brown orange. Variable due to inclusions 

Texture: Course grained, crumbly, clay-like 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Aggregates, burnt clay, mortar, bone (<5%), charcoal (~10%) 

Post-depositional Features: - 

Basal Boundary: Dumped; likely collapse of material from above. Gradual boundary.
