Discussion: This collection of bones (burial 42B) lay underneath the skull and neck vertebrae of burial 42A. However, as these 2 groups of bones are not necessarily from he same individual, they were treated as 2 separate burials in the filed (though lab work may indeed confirm they were from the same person.)
The bones consisted of at least one femur, foot bones (tarsals) and some ribs, & one tooth (identified in the field that is)
These were arranged in a tight linear grouping orientated E-W with the grave cut, and sloping gently to the east. This tight arrangement suggests that although the bones were disarticulated they may have been placed with some structure and care. The size of the bones indicates a possible juvenile / child.
The bones are in a very poor condition - they were not only brittle, but also crushed by the presence from above. Few (if any) were undamaged. The relatively regular nature of the cut and the placement of the bones all suggest a deliberate act of inhumation rather than the mere disposal of bones disturbed by later interments. Some salt deposits had formed around these bones.
