Discussion: This unit consisted of a burned layer of an oven base F.5041. This quite friable layer sealed much more prominent and better preserved plaster surface of highly burned material (u.20047).

*NOTE: remaining material/soil from this layer (1L) was not secure & mixed with cleaning/dust & was not allocated to flotation. 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: light brown, greyish 

Texture: sandy clay, ashy, silty-clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: fragments of charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: animal burrows 

Basal Boundary: abrupt, constructional
