Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: hearth; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: Unit is another molding to hearth superstructure under u.20051, separated by a thin very loose silty lense. Appears to be very similar to u.20052 in texture, color, and consistency.
Discussion: This unit was recognized as another superstructure under u.20051. It is distingushed from u.20051 by a very thin, loose, brown, silty lense between the two layers. This layer appears particularly patchy on the NE corner, this may be due to erosion, digging out of the surfaces or excessive burning in this area. Layer also indicates repetitive hearth rebuilding through use. The varying levels of degradation of these multiple molding events (u.20042, u.20051, u.20052) could be the result of erosion of the mixing and digging out of the hearth in antiquity. It is also interesting that the E edge of the unit contains especially burned clay, ash, and charred bone.
