Unit 20051
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Hearth superstructure
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: hearth; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: Layer is a friable earlier deposit of hearth superstructure, made of clay molding. It extends from the edge of the hearth to about 10 cm towards the center of the feature.
Discussion: Unit was first recognized in the outer profiles of the hearth and appears to be another hearth superstructure molding layer. It does not extend into the center of the hearth and also appears to have been dug out by inhabitants in antiquity. It seens to have had a circular shape, judging by the slope break of the layer near the center of the feature. The various superstructures appear to indicate the hearth was remodeled many times as floors were constanty being repaired, reused, plastered over and then dug out and cleared in order to make room for new surfaces.
