Description: Layer is a thin ashy deposit of loose charcoal rich material on the area of dirty floors to the E of hearth feature 3436. The layer does not lap up onto the hearth, but sits on dirty floors that possibly connect to the area under plaster floor unit 20058. 

Discussion: Layer is likely a remnant dirty surface or a deposit/dump of packed ash onto a dirt surface. The layer does not have a direct stratigraphic relationship with the hearth, therefore it may have been deposited while the hearth was in use but it is not apart of the sequence of floors that relate to the construction of the hearth. Underneath the layer is a series of dirty floors that as of the day of u. 20057 excavation, were locked stratigraphically under plaster floor U. 20053 and U. 20055, and a dirty floor and make up layer below that.
