Description: Unit is a brown mixed packed dirty floor locted directly south of the bench in the S portion of B 80. It contains large marley inclusions and small charcoal pieces.

Discussion: This layer was identified because of its distinguishable inclusions of white plaster/marley. This layer was underneath u.20066 at the southern extent and appears to lap up onto the extra platform (F7401) as well as the hearth (F3436) and the plaster floor being exposed under U 20067 (therefore the northern extent of this dirty floor was underneath u.20067). The unit is very ovular in shape and probably indicates an area of the southern portion of the building dedicated to use and cleaning. It appears to be compacted on many layers of earlier dirty floor and possibly plaster floors. The many plaster marley inclusions may indicate that this floor was in use during the plastering or re-plastering of major features in the area (maybe platform F 7401, bench). Layer is extremely thick and compact, and contains varying levels of charcoal inclusions, according to the proximity of the hearth (closer to the hearth, more charcoal).

Further excavation revealed that underneath this floor is a white plaster floor (no unit # as of 23/7/14) that is lapping up onto a superstructure layer of new hearth feature 7402, and the plaster lipping edge of the hearth (U. 20078) was also sitting on this layer, therefore this possible new plaster sunken/basin floor may have been contemporaneous with the plaster molding on the hearth. This is interesting because it indicates many plaster features in the southern part of the house which is not typically considered to contain many "clean" features, but are still located underneath very compact dity floors.
