Unit 20061
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Makeup layer to plaster floors
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: Layer is a friable clay make up to plaster floor layers unit 20059. It is patchy like the plaster surfaces especially in the center of the layer from erosion or possibly digging out in antiquity.
Discussion: This unit was recognized as a separate during the removal of the third and last plaster floor level in the previous oven location. It represents a distinctive depature from the pattern of thin plaster floors and make up layers, exhibited by u 20053, 20058, and 20059. It appears to be thicker and more orangey in color, like the dirty floors/makeup bordering this area to the N. This makeup layer appears to also lip up onto platform F.3437, like the later plaster floors. The layer appears to disintigrate into a kind of silty rubble by the threshold and does not seem like it will articulate with a makeup below the new plaster directly to the N of the threshold. This layer lips up onto wall F. 5038 like the previous plaster floors suggesting great care and attention was taken to prepare this space, which also seemed to remain relatively clean (a phase without an oven)?
