Unit 20129
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: infill,midden
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: E-W 3,95 x N-S 1,22 m x 0,29 m
Discussion: This midden layer was defined by its high content of organic material within the walls of Space 485, Building 110. the sediment was mid to dark brown and quite loose and friable compared to the layer underneath, which was more compact and filled with clay and yellow-orange building material. The sediment was densely filled with animal bone fragments, some pottery sherds.
The eastern section began to a higher elevation, sloping down gradually to the west. The eastern section was 0,27 cm thick and the west was 0,21 thick. The east section's bottom was fairly even, with the base of the middle of the unit quite lumpy and the base of the west section very flat.
Recognition: stratigraphic position in relation to the walls, looseness of the deposit and density of organic material
Definition: distinct in relation to other deposits between walls
Execution: trowel, brush
Condition: dry, windy
Consistency: friable
Colour: mid to dark brown
Texture: organic, silty sand
Bedding: homogeneous
Inclusions: fragments of bone, pottery, obsidian
Post-depositional Features: animal burrow
Basal Boundary: uneven, distinguished by more compact layer and colour changes underneath
