Unit 20148
Category: Cut dug in 2012
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: Pit cut
Data Category Information: Description: pit
Dimensions: 1.58 m x 1.45 m x .125 m
Discussion: The cut of this pit was easy to identify as we removed layer 20134, but as excavation proceeded, there was no identifiable change in soil. Eventually, we could identify some large charcoal patches and dark soil laminations extending beyond the limits of cut 20148, making its basal boundary fairly uncertain. It is likely, especially given the low artifact density, that after this pit was cut, it was filled very gradually, explaining the soil homogeneity and low artifact density.
Recognition: clear round extent of greyish brown soil found during removal of 20134 was pit infill
Definition: clear at top, unclear as excavation proceeded
Condition: warm, shaded
Shape: round
Sides: probably vertical, maybe sloping inward
Base Break: unclear-- end of pit identified by evidence of soil layers extending beyond limits of cut
Base: extremely unclear
Orientation: N/A
