Unit 20155

Category: Layer    dug in 2012

Area: TPC

Interpretive Categories: Infill,Midden

Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: homogeneous

Dimensions: 3.6 m EW x 1.6 m NS x depth 0.44 m

Discussion: This infill was bordered on three of its sides by mud-brick walls - on its southern border is a midden that has a different color and texture in the southern section; however, a few mud-bricks can be seen, so there may be a wall there, too.

The fill was relatively homogeneous throughout. It was very soft, brown, and moist. In many areas there were significant amounts of charcoal in the deposit. There weren not many artifacts found despite being such a large area. Ian Hodder suggested the area might be Mellart's backfill, which made us stop sieving the material. The basal boundary was not very clear but it seemed to be getting more homogeneous. The unit was stopped so that we did not dig too deep a hole.
