Interpretive Categories: Bricks

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: between walls; Material: brick; Deposition: heterogeneous

Dimensions: E-W 0,82 x N-S 0,22 x 0,57 m

Discussion: Associated with mortar U.20515.
During the excavation of the blocking of a niche (F. 456) it was possible to record 9 courses of the bricks which varied in their dimensions, due to erosion and long term of exposure. The heights of the bricks varied from 6.5 to 7.5 cm (I-7.5cm; II-7cm; III-7cm; IV-6.5cm; V-6cm; VI-7.5cm; VII-6.5cm; VIII-5cm; IX-6cm). However, their width was problematic to measure as a result of their bad preservation. Only in 2 cases it was possible to record the length that varied from 68 to 70cm. Taking into consideration the described building material, it might be stated that it was represented by different kinds of components (regarding: consistency, texture, colour). The bottom of the blocking (F.456) was marked by the presence of a plastered layer (a step?) or mortar (?).

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

X Finds Material: nothing recorded

Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
