Dimensions: 0.70 m x 0.76 m x 0.08 m 

 

Discussion: U. 20249 represents the fill of one of the many shallow pits that have been substantially eroded which we are finding at this level (e.g. f.3947, 3953, 3954). It was characterized by loose dark grey-brown soil, and faded out toward the south. It contained two extremely large sherds of pottery, but few other artifacts. 

 

Recognition: rounded deposit of loose grey-brown soil with very large pot sherds 

Definition: by soil color and texture 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: hot, shaded 

Consistency: loose to friable 

Colour: greyish-brown 

Texture: silty loam 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: pottery, bone, charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: animal borrows 

Basal Boundary: clear- marked by compact orange-grey clay loam
