Dimensions: 0,5m NS x 3m EW x 0,15m thick 

Discussion: This unit was an infill layer between walls in space 488. The layer was different compared to the previous layers of the midden. It was greyish in colour and was very homogenous with not many finds as compared to the midden area south of the wall. Excavated as an arbitrary 0.15 m thick spit layer (Z1012.25-1012.10). 

Recognition: Different colour and consistency than around 

Definition: Up to walls in all directions except West where it was up to a section 

Execution: mattock, trowel and brush 

Condition: dry and hot 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: grayish with yellowish and light brown inclusions 

Texture: silty clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal, bones and artefacts 

Post-depositional Features: animal burrows 

Basal Boundary: arbitrary
