Unit 20646

Category: Layer    dug in 2013

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: Plaster seal of cut 20648

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous

Discussion: The taphonomical process is different in western part (very affected by the fire of building 52 burning) and eastern part (not so much affected). This explains differences of colour and consistency in the same layer.
This unit, made of a thick layer of plaster, is only found within the cut u.20648. The plaster is different than the one covering the platform, without connection. Thus, a seal of plaster with the purpose of closing the burial, on top of more random infill, as it has been observed one other burials, is the best explanation.

Consistency: W : loose. E: firm

Colour: W : Mid grey. E : White with inclusion of red everywhere + for a little layer of make-up : W : dark brown. E light : brown

Texture: Plaster on top (silty clay). Thin layer of make-up at the bottom (siltier clay)

Bedding: 2 layers : massive and thick plaster layer above a thinner layer of make-up. More or less parallel but tends to be inclined toward NE

Inclusions: Small pieces of red painted plaster (aggregates ~5%, in make-up especially, from layer u.20634 cut by cut u.20648?)
