Description: The taphonomical process has been very different between the southwest part which was very affected by the burning of building 52, and the northeast part which was not so much affected…
U.20615 is formed by several plaster layers, very eroded since last excavation, especially for the higher ones (patches).
Two of these plaster layers were painted in red. 

 

Discussion: This layer is formed by several strafied floating patches of plaster layers. It is the result of the erosion of the top of the platform F.3695 since 2006 (when it had been excavated the last time). The erosion is particulary strong in the southwest area which was very affected by the burning of building 52 and thus very soft/friable.
Two of these patches of plaster layers were painted in red, just like u.20634.
The higher plaste layers of u.20615 seemed to partially covering kerb F.3693 and platform F.3694 (cf. sketch). This could let us think that the platform was the latest to be replasterd before the closure of building 52. But we also know that the burial F.7127 of the platform was probably made briefly before the burning (conservation of soft tissues… couple of years?) and is more recentthan the burials of platform F.3695. The stratigraphy observed could have been affected by the erosion, and the possibillity that F.3695 was the last platform to be replastered should be taken as a hypothesis and put back in perspective with this context.
Its base is the limit with the first plaster layer we were able to follow on the whole surface of the platform is spite of its erosion (except for the center of the depression affecting the platform surface where u.20615 was partially covering the seal u.20646 of burial F.7112). 

 

Consistency: Southwest : loose to soft. Northeast : firm 

Colour: Southwest : black to dark brown. Northeast : white to light brown. In all the surface : red painted plaster (darker in the southwest, lighter in the northeast). 

Texture: plaster + make-up 

Bedding: layered 

Inclusions: - 

Post-depositional Features: Southwest part has been very affected by fire (burning of building 52). The platform shows a depression towards the center (burials). 

Basal Boundary: constructional, very sharp : red painted plaster layer u.20634 (first layer possible to follow on the whole surface of the platform in spite of its erosion).
