Unit 20849

Category: Layer    dug in 2014

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: floor plaster lipping onto platform

Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: white clay; Deposition: single; Basal Spit: unpainted

Discussion: This unit was visible at the end of the 2013 season but could not be excavated until the scoop of f.7013 was documented and dug. It is represented by an application of plaster lipping up on platform f.3507 and extending to the west of the space. It is patchy in places which makes execution rather difficult. The plaster on the western edge of platform f.3507 is especially thick. This unit is badly damaged by animal furrows, extensive cracking and truncation. It was not applied to the extreme edges of the space, presumably because there was an earlier floor applied to the extreme edges of the space, presumably because there was an earlier floor applied very thickly that was still present at the edges & had not eroded away (visible in sections of truncations)

Consistency: compact (extremely)

Colour: white

Texture: claylike (plaster)

Bedding: massive

Inclusions: minimal charcoal and ash

Post-depositional Features: trampling, cracking, animal burrows, truncation by pits

Basal Boundary: mostly clear-came down onto grey makeup layer though patchy in places (especially along walls and to west of space)
