Unit 20852

Category: Layer    dug in 2014

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: makeup of western floor and w. half of platform

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Deposition: homogeneous

Discussion: This unit represents a relatively thick layer of makeup on top of floor plaster u. 20855 to make the surface for floor plaster u. 20849. Due to its compaction, the execution was both by trowel and carefully by pick-- and the layer underneath was easily clear. Removing this unit revealed a floor with slightly different contours than the one after, though both slope quite a lot to the south. A small pocket of seeds was found on the floor plaster in a small divet and sampled, though they may have been intrusive. Aside from this, the layer was quite clean, containing few finds. The unit is assumed to roughly equate to u. 20854, the makeup layer of extremely similar appearance on the eastern side of platform f. 3508, though with the thin floor laminations characteristic of this space it is extremely difficult to be certain.
