Unit 20867
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Plaster modification to platform
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This unit represents an addition to platform f. 3507, found underneath plaster u. 20866 (another addition to the same platform) and contiguous with floor u. 20865. There is no physical boundary between the units, but this represents a much thicker application, and one which functions as furniture rather than floor. It is remarkable to find such a substantial addition to the platform composed of nothing but plaster, with no makeup whatsoever. There was an animal burrow running through the center of it with some small pebbles and chunks of clay. It seems that the plaster itself was applied quite cleanly. This layer came off quite easily from the makeup layer (u.20872) below, peeling off without a problem, even when excavating by mattock.
Consistency: extremely compact
Colour: white
Texture: plaster
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: small pebbles in animal burrow
Post-depositional Features: cracking, animal burrow, truncation by pit
Basal Boundary: clear-- came down on makeup layer present across entire space
