Unit 20874
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Makeup
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This unit represents the makeup layer present on platform f. 3508, which presumably was once contiguous and contemporaneous with u. 20872 (to be verified in post-ex)-- though the matching of layers in this space is made difficult by the many burial cuts and cracks. This unit is very thin and devoid of finds and inclusions, as is the case with most floor layers in B. 96. Toward the south end of this unit, the basal boundary became unclear; the plaster underneath was extremely thin and heavily eroded, not present at all in some places. This may be related to its location closer to the center of the building, where it would have been more disturbed by trampling and activity, or because of the extensive burial activity in platform f. 3508.
Consistency: Compact
Colour: Brownish grey
Texture: Clay
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Very small amount of charcoal
Post-depositional Features: Truncation by burial cuts and post retrieval pit
Basal Boundary: Clear-- came down on plaster
