Discussion: The group of baby / infant semi-articulated bones lay below some of the adult bones of skeleton 1955 but they were also mixed up with many of the adult bones and there was no clear stratigraphic relationship between them, These baby/infant bones were badly crushed, and due to their delicate nature few bones survived lifting intact.
The body of the infant (if there had ever been a whole one) may have been placed on a north-south orientation across the more E-W body of an adult (1955). Rotting and post-depositional processes then ensured that the infant bones settled down through and became co-mingled with 1955. On the other hand, the lack of obvious cranial remains has to be explained.
After lifting of the ribs, infant long bones were uncovered which were sketched above and then removed. Subsequent cleaning and removal of some of 1955's rib elements revealed that most (if not all) of 2125's post cranial remains had in fact survived.
As previously thought, the spread of ribs (now possibly the left rather than the right side) had detached themselves from the core of the skeleton and had slumped sideways to the W. The position of the vertebrae, pelvic bones and limb bones on the second plan 97/173 suggest that the infant was placed on its left side in a crouched position, pelvis to the North. Foot bones from 2125 lay on the right cheek and jaw of the adult 1955 skull, and further foot bones lay just to he SE of this skull.
Hand bones lay in groups to the South of the adult skull and also across the vertebrae of 2125, and also to the East of the adult skull. I seems likely that the right arm and hand lay on top of the upper (right) side of the body therefore.

Basak then discovered that the 2nd lot of infant bones were largely complete and semi-articulated. The original set of ribs must therefore have belonged to a separate individual. This was renumbered as 2168. It also includes arm bones
