Discussion: Infill in foundation trench. The feature was recognized due to its different texture and colour compared with the infill u.21139. The trench was seen as a clear line although it was not as clear in north and south. The infill u.21301 is an arbitrary layer under u.21171. They are thus part of the same heterogenous appearance. The unit was excavated with mattock and shovel.

To the north and south are walls and to east is infill u.21139. The feature, and the infill, are cut by a bysantine grave in south.

While cleaning the lower part of the unit a obsidian spear head was found. It was situated in change between u. 21301 & 21542, near the bysantine grave f. 3685. 

Consistency: Strong/compact 

Colour: Grey with orange flecks of brick 

Texture: Loam 

Bedding: Layered: layers of brick and mortar
