Unit 21316
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: car. Post+infill in cut u.21315 (posthole F.7573)
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: post
Discussion: The post of F.7573 was not removed prior to the burning of B.52. Thus the carbonised remains of its base has been found in posthole u.21315. This carbonised post has the same sub-rectangular/triangular shape as the cut. The infill found in the cut was only in between the carbonised post and the edge of the cut. It was heavily burnt and in low quality.
2015 : the excavation of the post retrieval pit 7770 gave the impression that as the two previous posts (associated with older phase of sp. 94 : floor 21390) were removed (in order to built floor 21310), the posts 21323 and 21315 were installed (the base is very clear after excavation f infill 31404). In this case : cuts 21322 and 21316 are not proper cuts but more the imprint of the post after the construction of 21310 (filling up all aound the post). Indeed their stability is not really an issue since they are sitting on top of very solid wall material (top of truncated wall 1580 and 2007 atvthe bottm of pit 7770).
Consistency: carbonsed post - very loose. The rest of the infill is soft.
Colour: black for charcoal of the carbonised post . Dark brownish grey for the infill
Texture: carbonised post - charcoal. Silty clay for the infill
