Unit 21588
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: packing beneath the north wall
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Compacted packing under N wall F.3681. The deposit consists of a heterogeneous mix of mortar, mudbrick, alluvial clay and plant material used as temper. Although the deposit had a mudbrick texture and consistency towards the E, this sediment was removed as part of this unit, as it represents a foundation deposit.
Within this stratum an articulated human hand was found (X1), consisting of one metacarpal bone and several phalangues. Giving the context and the nature of this find we hope that it can be used for C14 dating of the building.
