Discussion: Very compacted packing/foundation deposit under the W end of N wall F.3681. Giving the limited extension of this unit, it is possible that it functioned as levelling material for the wall. Very hardened and fine-grained, it resembles mudbrick and was possibly manufactured in a similar way to this architectural element. The occurrence of band/patches of coarser sediment (sandy loam, medium to very coarse sands), points to the alluvial origin of these materials, in which natural layering caused by differential conditions during alluviation become amalgamated.
In order to lay down this deposit, the floors/packing to the E end of the building were cut, as this unit is laying against them. 

Consistency: Very compacted. 

Colour: Light brown. 

Texture: Silty clay with patches of coarse sands. 

Bedding: Massive. 

Inclusions: None. 

Post-depositional Features: Rodent burrowing (common occurrence); gypsum salts towards bottom. 

Basal Boundary: Sharp, distinct, smooth, anthropic/constructional.
