Unit 21630

Category: Layer    dug in 2014

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: burial infill

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous

Description: Infill of a burial (F.7632) placed in central-eastern part of sealed structure of B.132. Not fully excavated in 2014.

Discussion: The burial infill (U.21630) was recorded next to the western face of the remaining (Eastern) wall of B.132. The sediment registered within deep cut (U.21631) was easy to distinguish from surrounded room-fill (U.21622) in plan as well as in the section (during exploration). The deposit compounded of at least two different accumulations that were recognized by the consistency and color. In its upper part it comprised of mostly crushed bricks and mortar, in addition it was less sandy and more greasy than the encircling room-fill. Lower part of the infill became darker and particular inclusions within it were more fragmented than in sediment above.
The excavation of the unit had been ceased at the stage of revealing human bones (Sk.-21636) in the southern part of the (F.7632). The estimated time of further exploration would have not allowed to accomplish the work by the end of the 2014 season.

2015 SEASON:
In the course of the research work in 2015 the examination of the burial infill (21630) had been continued and finally completed. The unit appeared to be very deep, reaching 0,48m of thickness, that gave eventually additional 180 liters of sediment which was entirely collected as flotation sample (S5) according to priority protocol associated with the burial infill treatment.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
