Unit 21648
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Inter-wall infill
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: U21646 above U21648 are both the same interwall infilll, however they were constructed in different ways. At first it was thought that U21646 continued downward, but U21648 consisted mostly of very hard mortar that acted as support and foundation of F3624. The infill layer was also highly visible in the eastern section, so it was easy to follow. U21648 also held a mudbrick that was inclined towards the foundation wall of F3624 at the very bottom of the wall. The interwall infill was increasingly narrow as it was emptied. The unit was excavated mostly by trowel, while harder parts of mortar had to be hacked away. The 1m part of F3624 was removed simultaneously, as it was collapsing due to decreased support when the interwall infill was removed.
