Unit 22101
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Arbitrary floor layer
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Discussion: Arbitrary layer of dirty floors and make/up, surrounding oven F.7322 and hearth F.7323. The layer was excavated to define relations between floor layers and surrounding features. The layer is composed of several plaster and makeup layers, the exact number of which is difficult to make out, due to them being part of a dirty floor. A floor that has been repaired and patched up several times.
The layer is predated by the oven and the hearth; ie the floor runs up against the superstructure of these features.
It was very difficult to keep the same level and follow connections over the floor area as a whole, but especially in the N, where the floor is very patchy and cracked.
It was possible to follow a plaster layer in E, that merges with floor and makeup U21578.
Layer excavated with leaf trowel.
Phytoliths were gathered from a grid.
