Unit 2226
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Burial fill
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This is a child burial contemporary with burials in features 151,. It cut the Neolithic building horizon. The fill consisted of the surrounding earth and contained several relatively large lumps of plaster from a Neolithic wall next to the grave. The fill dirt was light and soft. Immediately above the vertebral column of the child, there was a tiny layer of solid clay. Supposedly, it was formed from water and clay that leeked through the coffin top. The traces of a coffin were iron nails, some of them, probably, represent top nails and some bottom ones. They were surrounding skeleton. Beside the head of the child, there was a glass bottle- the same type as in the grave in group, 151. It was placed parallel with the head, beside the right shoulder. There were two copper (?) beads below the chin, to the right child's side. They are probably from necklece. Beside the left femur, there was a bone neadle - broken in two. This was, probably, a deliberate breakage, since no disturbance were encountered. This interpretation could be strenghtened by its layout too.
21. Aug. 1997
After lifting the skeleton, grave pit was cleaned to the bottom. The south side of the grave was disturbed by rodentholes, visible in the south vertical section of the grave and on the bottom on this side. In the last one, a rib of the child was found. This rodent disturbances could affect that the right forearm is missing. In the east part of the grave and along the north, narrow strip, there are smaller and larger concreation with the plaster next to it. These concreations are more intensive in the NE corner of the grave - the closest to the wall plaster. Beside the above mentioned disturbances, the bootom of the grave is flat, with vertically cut side walls. (sketch b)
